We thank all of you who traveled to Heron Lake and helped to celebrate the  Heron Lake Community Reunion weekend.  The following is a review of the celebration and the events:

*FRIDAY, JULY 1 - A NIGHT OF VISITING WITH FRIENDS, PAST & PRESENT, AT THE HERON LAKE COMMUNITY CENTER.  THE MUNICIPAL LIQUOR STORE  SERVED DRINKS AND MUNCHIES WERE  PROVIDED.

*SATURDAY, JULY 2 - MORNING GARDEN TOUR, 8 AM – 12 NOON, SPONSORED BY HERON LAKE LIBRARY BOARD, MINIMAL CHARGE. This was the second year the Library Board has sponsored a garden tour, and funds will go to the Library Building Fund to be used for a new, accessible library in our community.

9 A.M. - HLOCF Road Race

MORNING QUILT SHOW, SPONSORED BY THE LOCAL QUILTING GROUP, AT THE COMMUNITY CENTER, MINIMAL CHARGE.

10 A.M. - 3 P.M. - Show-N-Shine car show on 9th Street by the Heron Lake City Park, with a parade at 3 PM. 

11 A.M. – 1 P.M. - SALAD LUNCHEON AT THE COMMUNITY CENTER, MINIMAL CHARGE. This was also sponsored by the Library Board, with funds going for a new library building.

1 P.M. -   HERON LAKE ANTIQUE SHOW AT SACRED HEART SCHOOL
Ivan Harris  shared his experiences of being on the “Antique Road Show” in Minneapolis.  Several appraisers were available to view  pottery, furniture, dishes and more. A $2 fee was be charged for each appraised item.

3 P.M. - Show-N_Shine car show parade.

4:30 P.M. – 7:30 P.M. - A CATERED MEAL WAS HELD AT THE COMMUNITY CENTER. COST WAS $12 PER PERSON. MENU INCLUDED ROAST BEEF, BROASTED CHICKEN, BAKED POTATO, DINNER ROLL, GREEN BEANS, MANDARIN ORANGE SALAD, RELISH TRAY, BEVERAGE.

8:30 P.M. – 12:00 MIDNIGHT - DANCE AT COMMUNITY CENTER, MINIMAL CHARGE MUSIC PROVIDED BY THE BAND “STARFIRE” WITH FORMER HERON LAKE RESIDENT DUANE (DEWEY) LEOPOLD AS ONE OF ITS MEMBERS, PLAYING 50’S & 60’S MUSIC.

*SUNDAY, JULY 3

8 AM – 1 PM - HERON LAKE FIRE DEPARTMENT  SERVED PANCAKES & SAUSAGE WITH BEVERAGE – AT SSC ELEMENTARY SCHOOL.

1 P.M. - ECUMENICAL CHURCH SERVICE IN HERON LAKE PARK.

2 P.M. - FASHION & TALENT SHOW:
A review of “Wedding Gowns Through the Years” was held at the Heron Lake Community Center. Current and former residents  shared their wedding gowns, accessories, (veils, jewelry, shoes, flowers) bridesmaids and flower girl dresses as well as men’s attire.   People were welcome to model their own attire, or models were provided. Wedding photos are welcome, but not necessary.

4:30 P.M. - HERON LAKE PORK PRODUCERS HELD THEIR ANNUAL PORK CHOP FEED  AT THE COMMUNITY CENTER, SERVING PORK CHOPS OR MRS. RIBS PORK SANDWICH, POTATO SALAD, BAKED BEANS, LETTUCE SALAD AND BEVERAGE.

8:30 P.M. - HERON LAKE YOUNG MEN’S CLUB STREET DANCE/BEER GARDEN, NOMINAL FEE.
