HERON LAKE CITY COUNCIL
SPECIAL MEETING
JANUARY 12, 2018 4:00 PM

The meeting was called to order by Mayor Jason Freking, with the other following council members present; Carol Wagner, Roger FitzHenry, Andrew Rasche, and Glenn Kuhnau. Also present was Brenda Martin-Granstra.

The purpose of the special meeting was to review applicants for the clerk/treasurer position.

Discussion was on the applications of Lisa Jean Smith, Stacy Grube, Brittney McNab and Dale Ebbers, all of whom were considered finalists and interviewed. At this stage in the hiring process, finalists’ names and pertinent job qualifications are public data.

The merits of each candidate were discussed, which included the positive attributes of college degrees, office experience, accounting/bookkeeping experience, computer abilities, organizational skills, etc. Additional points in applicants favor that were considered included; involvement in the Heron Lake community, ability to open and close the community center for events, experience in making and monitoring budgets, past good work attendance and expected future performance.

Based on the compilation of positives and negatives, council ranked the candidates first through third choices. The unanimous first choice was Stacy Grube, which resulted in the following:
Mayor Freking moved, seconded by Council Member Rasche, to approve offering the clerk/treasurer position to Stacy Grube, starting salary to be $17.50, with a six month review and anticipated 25 cent raise. Vote on the motion: Freking, Kuhnau, Wagner, FitzHenry and Rasche, aye; no nays. Motion carried.

Mayor Freking moved, seconded by Council Member Rasche, to adjourn. Vote on the motion: Freking, Kuhnau, Wagner, FitzHenry and Rasche, aye; no nays. Motion carried.
